The two Leaders of Opposition in the National Assembly cumulatively attended 33 out of 84 sittings (39 percent) of the Lower House during the second parliamentary year
However, the office of the Leader of the Opposition remained vacant for nearly five months, during which 32 sittings of the House were held. The Assembly held a total of 84 plenary sittings during the second year, spread over 11 sessions.
Omar Ayub served as Leader of the Opposition until his disqualification as a Member of the National Assembly on August 5, 2025. During the second parliamentary year, he remained in office for 40 sittings. He attended 21 of those 40 sittings (53 percent).
Following Omar Ayub’s disqualification, the office of the Leader of the Opposition remained vacant until January 16, 2026. During this period, the House held 32 sittings without an officially notified Leader of the Opposition.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai was notified as Leader of the Opposition on January 16, 2026. He attended all 12 sittings held since his assuming the office. Prior to January 16, he attended 51 sittings as sole MNA and parliamentary leader of his party Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP). Throughout the second year, he attended 63 out of 84 sittings (75 percent).
